The Bayport-Blue Point School District held several new student orientations ahead of the district’s first day of school, Sept. 7.
On Aug. 30, James Wilson Young Middle School welcomed the incoming sixth grade class. Principal John Andruszkiewicz was joined by Assistant Principal Patricia Westerlund and spoke about what students could expect during their time at the middle school, answering any questions they had. Students from the superintendent’s council then introduced themselves, offering to be a resource for incoming students both throughout the orientation and beyond. After the introductory remarks, students explored the building and tested out opening their lockers for the first time.
Bayport-Blue Point High School welcomed the incoming freshman class of 2027 during their orientation on Aug. 31. New interim Principal James Nolan spoke to the students about their school schedule and offered tips for success.
Afterward, Rohan Murphy, professional motivational speaker and accomplished powerlifter and wrestler, shared the story of his disability and his journey to becoming a wrestler. Mr. Murphy left students with a powerful message focused on the importance of perseverance and what it means to live a life with purpose. Students then discovered their new school building for the very first time.
