Erin's Law

In 2019, the State Legislature passed signed legislation known as Erin’s Law, requiring public schools to provide instruction designed to prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.  In accordance with NY State Erin's Law, each February the district will continue state-mandated instruction through classroom instruction and activities provided by our health teachers and social workers to our students in grades Kindergarten through five.  We aim to provide students with the information, skills, and support they need to keep safe.

Erin's Law is named after Erin Merryn, an abuse survivor and activist against child sexual abuse who has advocated for similar laws nationwide for over a decade.  Erin's Law intends to help children, teachers, and parents/guardians in New York State schools identify healthy relationships, sexual abuse and to provide awareness, assistance, referral, or resource information for children and families who are victims of child sexual abuse.
