On August 21, the Bayport-Blue Point School District appointed Mr. Chris Scardino as the interim principal of Sylvan Avenue Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year during a special meeting of the board of education.
For 16 years, Mr. Scardino worked as the principal of Fork Lane Elementary School in Hicksville before retiring in 2020. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal in Babylon and worked as a classroom teacher for grades two through six.
Since retirement, Mr. Scardino has remained active in public education, most recently working as an interim in the Port Jefferson School District.
Mr. Scardino is well-known for fostering deep connections with families, students and staff as well as implementing character-building programs and events.
“I am confident that he will be a strong asset in leading our Sylvan Avenue school community this year, and I know he is eager to get to know our students, staff and families,” said Superintendent Timothy Hearney as he welcomed Mr. Scardino to the district.
