Eligibility
Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of either the sophomore or the junior class.
To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Bayport-Blue Point High School.
Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative unweighted grade point average of 91.5 that is calculated after the first semester of sophomore year.
If a junior or senior wishes to apply or reapply, they must seek out the advisor(s) to let them know.
Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their leadership, service, and character.
Sophomore Students ELIGIBLE for NHS will automatically receive an application with instructions. This will likely be available in March.
Current NHS members do NOT need to reapply.
How the unweighted GPA is calculated for NHS?
This information can also be found in the high school Course Offerings Book.
The unweighted GPA is calculated by multiplying a student’s final course grade with the credits for that course.
The sum of all courses is then divided by the total credits.
A student’s unweighted GPA will appear on their transcript and is also used in determining eligibility for National Honor Society.
Please note that Honor and Merit Roll are awarded based on a student’s raw unweighted average for an individual marking quarter.
The raw unweighted average is calculated by determining the mean average, regardless of the credits that the course is worth.
Your updated GPA can be seen in Naviance.
Students GPA is updated in Naviance each September and March.
You must have a 91.5 unweighted average to receive an application.
