Bayport-Blue Point School District’s three elementary schools each recently held a drive-through graduation ceremony for its fifth grade students, who will move up to James Wilson Young Middle School in the fall. The festivities included DJs, school mascots, colorful decorations and, of course, lots of proud family members and teachers cheering the graduates. These celebrations provided a special way to celebrate this milestone while adhering to social distancing guidelines.

First graders in Luanne Rosado’s and Nicole Greco’s classes at Academy Street Elementary School in Bayport-Blue Point School District recently enjoyed a virtual field trip to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts. Through their computer screens, the students were able to explore the museum, including its art workshop and picture book library. They learned about the way authors like Eric Carle create stories by making sketches, thumbnails and “dummy books” as they develop their ideas through the writing process. They also got a glimpse of how Eric Carle creates his signature tissue paper collages.
