Superintendent's Message

October 2018

Dear Bayport-Blue Point Families,

The school year is now a month underway and it's a joy to have the students back in the buildings.

As you know, this summer and fall we had some bond work done, which means that the Middle School students returned to a building with a new library, lockers, home & career room and science labs. Sylvan students arrived to see new windows and a gymnasium floor while Blue Point Elementary students will soon see the finished work of a new front office. Academy Street also welcomed a new gymnasium floor and all of the buildings now have security vestibules. The security has also been increased and extended for the 2018/19 school year. I appreciate your support as now all visitors must show their identification before entering the building and wear a visitor pass during their time in the building.

As we continue with the bond work, the district is also looking to implement an Energy Performance Contract (EPC). As part of the this contract, energy-efficient equipment - such as lighting upgrades, energy management systems and renewable solar energy (roof-mounted carports, canopies, etc.) would be installed on district property. An Energy Performance Contract would do the following for the district:

  • An approved Energy Performance Contract would have no tax impact for the community; the cost of the project will be paid for by the energy savings.
  • The district can secure an additional $1 million or 10 percent (for a total of 68.2 percent) in New York State building aid with an approved vote; without it, the district would not be able to access these monies.
  • It is expected that the district will save between $5,863,634 and $6,945,055 after fully recouping the cost for the installation of the equipment.
  • The projects will enable the district to reduce its energy consumption, generate aid/revenue and further reduce its carbon footprint, thereby creating a greener district.

A community vote has been scheduled for October 23, 2018 in the High School Gymnasium from 7am - 9pm. I encourage you to visit the district website,, and click "Energy Performance Quick Link" for additional information.

Again, we could not be happier to have the students and teachers back in the buildings. I wish all of our students a successful 2018/19 school year.
